Our very own Baylee Mitchell heard God’s call at the age of 8 and now, at 19 years old, she is serving full-time in Thailand.
“I am 19 years old. I feel called to Mae Sai, which is the most northern part of Thailand that borders Burma, modern-day Myanmar. I am partnering with a ministry called Victory International and will be teaching English at their new English center and helping to pioneer the children’s program for their church. I will also be helping in their vision as they pioneer a church for the Burmese. I will be there for the next 5 years possibly more. My goal is to raise $1000 monthly but any one-time donations are welcomed. My other major needs would be a prayer for wisdom as I prepare and for perseverance as I learn to speak Thai fluently.”

สวัสดีค่ะ! Hello from Thailand!
Guess what time it is! If you were thinking Baylee’s monthly update, you would be correct!
First off, it has officially been a little over a month since I moved back to Thailand, but honestly, God has already done SO much that I feel like I have been here much longer. Seriously…where did September go?! And somehow, October 6th marks THREE YEARS of serving in Thailand!
Three years. I genuinely cannot believe it. When I first came to Thailand, I had no idea what God would have in store for me or how much He would teach me, stretch me, grow me, and surprise me along the way. Looking back, I am incredibly thankful for every person, experience, opportunity, challenge, and answered prayer that God has placed in my life during these past three years. It has truly been an amazing journey, and I am so excited to see what He continues to do in this next chapter.
Life in Chiang Mai
Life here has officially started to develop a rhythm, and I am really enjoying getting settled into my new routine. My weeks currently consist of worship and prayer sessions every morning, staff teachings and meetings twice a week, two sister Zumba days, Thai classes twice a week, and Sunday games with friends. I have also been given several opportunities to help lead worship, which has been such a blessing. Getting to use something I love to serve the Lord and encourage others is something I never want to take for granted. There are still plenty of unknowns as I continue figuring out what this season will look like, but I am learning to embrace the process instead of feeling like I need to have everything figured out right away.

Thai School
I officially started my Thai classes during the second week of September! The class itself has been good. My teacher is very nice, and I really like my fellow classmates. That being said, I will be honest—I genuinely feel like I learn and retain more when I am outside of the classroom, talking with the Thai staff and students at my base or interacting with people out on the streets. Regardless of my personal opinion about classroom learning, I am thankful for the opportunity to relearn the basics and continue building a stronger foundation in Thai.
One of my biggest goals right now is to get over my fear of speaking. I know I am not going to be perfect, and I know I will make mistakes. But if I am going to become more confident and actually communicate well, I have to be willing to speak even when I feel embarrassed or unsure. So, please pray that I would have the courage to practice, make mistakes, laugh at myself, and keep trying!
Visa Update
This brings me to my next adventure: the visa interview.
Because there have been people applying for an Education Visa without actually attending their classes, the government now conducts a brief interview in which officials can ask applicants questions to determine whether they are genuinely learning Thai and attending school. My interview is a little over a month away…and I am already stressed about it. I know I still have time to prepare, but the thought of sitting in an interview and being asked questions in Thai is definitely intimidating! Please pray that God would give me peace, confidence, wisdom, and the ability to communicate what I have learned. Pray that I would not allow anxiety to take over and that I would trust Him with the outcome.
Moving Off Base + Praying for a Car
As I mentioned in my last update, YWAM Chiang Mai is currently preparing to welcome 50+ new staff members and their families, which means there are a LOT of practical details to figure out—including housing. Because of the number of people coming, a couple of friends and I are currently discussing the possibility of moving off base and renting a house together. It is exciting, but there are also a lot of decisions involved—finding the right house, figuring out finances, transportation, and responsibilities, and making sure everything works well for everyone involved.
I am also continuing to pray about getting a car. Having reliable transportation would be a huge help as I serve, attend Thai classes, get groceries, navigate Chiang Mai, and continue becoming more independent in this season.
Please pray that God would provide exactly what is needed, in His timing and in His way.
Praise Report
One of the biggest things I am praising God for this month is simply how much He has already done in such a short amount of time.
I have been able to settle into a new community, begin Thai school, serve through worship, participate in staff life, build friendships, and begin finding a rhythm here in Chiang Mai.
I am especially thankful that God continues to remind me that I do not have to know exactly what the next six months or even the next six days will look like.
I just need to be faithful with what He has placed in front of me today.
And as I celebrate three years in Thailand, I am reminded over and over again that God has been faithful through every season.
King’s Kids Event
On October 3rd, I will also be helping with a King’s Kids event where I will be teaching the 9–11-year-olds! I am really excited for the opportunity to spend time with the kids, teach them, and hopefully encourage them in their relationship with Jesus. Please pray that God would give me wisdom, creativity, patience, and the ability to connect with the kids in a way that points them toward Him.
Prayer Requests
• YWAM Chiang Mai:
Pray for our YWAM Chiang Mai base as we continue walking through this major season of transition and prepare to welcome more than 50 new staff members representing 22 nations. Pray for unity, wisdom, grace, provision, and strong relationships as we grow together as a community.
• New Staff & Their Families:
Pray for good health, safety, protection, and smooth travels for everyone coming to Thailand. Pray that each person and family would arrive safely and without complications and that they would feel welcomed and cared for as they transition into this new season.
• Visas:
Pray for the visa situations of our incoming staff and for my own visa situation. Pray that everything would be resolved smoothly, that God would provide favor with immigration, and that everything would fall into place according to His timing.
• My Visa Interview:
Please specifically pray for my upcoming Thai-language visa interview. Pray for peace over my anxiety, confidence when speaking, wisdom in answering questions, and that I would be able to communicate what I have learned clearly.
• My Role at YWAM:
Pray for wisdom and discernment as I continue discovering my role at YWAM Chiang Mai. Pray that I would serve faithfully, recognize where God is calling me, build strong relationships, and be a blessing to the YWAM family.
• Thai School:
Pray that God would give me patience, discipline, confidence, and the ability to learn and communicate well in Thai. Most of all, pray that I would become more confident speaking and not allow fear of making mistakes to hold me back.
• King’s Kids Event:
Please pray for the King’s Kids event on October 3rd and especially for the 9–11-year-olds I will be teaching. Pray that God would give me wisdom, patience, creativity, and the right words to speak. Pray that the kids would have fun, feel loved and encouraged, and most importantly, grow in their understanding of and relationship with Jesus.
• Housing & Transportation:
Pray for wisdom as we look into moving off base and potentially renting a house together. Pray for the right home, the right roommates, financial provision, and unity throughout the process. Please also pray for provision and wisdom regarding a car and that God would provide the transportation I need to serve well.
• My Sister:
Pray for my sister as she continues settling into college. Pray that she would remain healthy, continue adjusting well to this new season, build meaningful friendships, grow in confidence and in her relationship with the Lord, and have God’s protection over her.
• Nepal & Those Affected by the Disaster:
Pray for God’s peace and comfort over every family impacted by the tragedy. Pray for those who are still searching for loved ones and for everyone involved in responding and serving during this difficult time.
• Myanmar:
Pray for the ongoing conflict in Myanmar and for the families and communities who continue to be affected. Pray for protection, peace, provision, and hope in the midst of difficult circumstances.
• My Mom:
Pray that my mom will continue to thrive as a principal. Pray for peace, wisdom, strength, endurance, and God’s guidance as she leads her school community.
• Happy Homes:
Pray for the bathroom project at Happy Homes. Pray that God would provide all the finances needed for construction to begin and that every detail of the project would come together smoothly.
• My Walk With Christ:
Most importantly, pray that I would continue growing deeper in my relationship with Christ. Pray that I would trust Him fully, remain sensitive to His voice, seek His will above my own, and find joy and peace in every season He leads me through.

Your support means more than you know, and I am incredibly thankful for each and every one of you. As I look back on three years in Thailand, I am overwhelmed by God’s faithfulness and by all the incredible people He has placed in my life along the way.
I am so excited to see what God is going to do in this next season—not only in my own life but throughout YWAM Chiang Mai and among all the nations represented here.
